We can say with certainty that the discovery of the world we live in has been completed in the last century. As adventurous explorers initiated it many centuries ago – we are celebrating, this year, the 500th anniversary of the first journey around the world by the Portuguese captain Fernão de Magalhães – the last mountains have now been conquered, the most remote areas have been explored, and mankind has ventured into the depth of the sea and flown to outer space.

The rapid advancement of technology has made the world completely accessible, but still many aspects of human culture remain to be discovered. We are unfamiliar with the cultures and traditions of other countries, unaware of the similarities as humans, and unaccustomed to accepting our differences.

The 7th TAFISA World Sport for All Games in Lisbon, Portugal will offer a voyage of discovery around the world. It will highlight the importance of Traditional Sports and Games throughout history in the lives of the people on all the continents.

For seven amazing days, the City of Lisbon will be the museum for global culture and tradition which were kept alive around the world. It will be the focal point in the minds of the world as the Sport and Cultural Capital, rich in tradition and personality, while providing an opportunity to discover Traditional Sports and Games from around the world.

The World comes together in Lisbon, Portugal, to enjoy diversity, experiences, new friendship and cultural pride despite race, nationality, religion, gender, age, etc. accepting each other and their differences.

TAFISA and the Games’ host, IPDJ, look forward to welcoming you and sharing experiences on June 18 – 24, 2021. I am sure the days in Lisbon will be happy and memorable, to be treasured for many years to come.

Welcome to a millenary city full of monuments and with a rich history of centuries. Since the beginning of the 15th century, Lisbon has become accustomed to seeing ships leave its beaches, which, by cutting the oceans, have provided us with the knowledge of practically all the places from which you now come.

Welcome to a city that, since time immemorial, has become accustomed to receiving, within its walls, foreigners representing the most varied civilizations and from all over the world.

In the year in which we celebrate 500 years of one of the most relevant achievements of humanity, - the first circumnavigation trip, on an expedition led by the portuguese Fernão de Magalhães - we are pleased to welcome you to an unforgettable event.

The Portuguese Sports Confederation, in a joint organization with the Portuguese Institute of Sports and Youth and the Lisbon City Council, has prepared for all of you, who visit us at these 7th World Sports for All TAFISA Games, several initiatives, within the scope of traditional games, which, we are certain, will meet your interests and expectations and will contribute to the development of sport for all.

In order to be in line with our ancestral habits and to welcome you, as we have done for centuries, we chose Restelo Beaches as the main place of activities for the Games, from where, in the 15th and 16th centuries, we set out to meet of your ancestors.

Lisbon, European Capital of Sport 2021, prepares to welcome the 7th TAFISA World Sports For All Games. This year, when we began the post-pandemic recovery process and a progressive return to normality, it is important we continue to promote and encourage sports practice and a healthier lifestyle.
Lisbon is proud of its sports tradition and its capability of organizing major sport events, considering sports as a fundamental element for people’s physical and psychological well-being, acting as an important role to training and education of young people as full-fledged citizens, being an instrument that facilitates social development and more inclusive, open and qualified societies at a context of healthy demand.
It is through sports that we learn and deepen values such as sportsmanship, fair play, sacrifice, the principle of learning to live with the disappointment and frustration that result from the defeats, but also with the joy and pride of the victories.
Therefore, it is with great pleasure that Lisbon welcomes and joins the TAFISA World Sports for All Games, an event that enriches the city and promotes a sports culture based on inclusion, equality and plurality, because Lisbon truly is a city for everyone and for all.
